  • The Case for Staying Outside After Sunset

    Sep 11, 2026

When the sun goes down, the backyard changes. The temperature softens, familiar spaces feel quieter and the day’s urgency begins to fade.

    Use layers of light

A few low, warm sources are more inviting than a bright floodlight. Try string lights overhead, a lantern near the hammock and subtle path lighting underfoot.

    Prepare for cooler air

Leave a soft throw nearby and choose fabrics that feel comfortable against bare skin. A warm drink or cool evening cocktail gives you one more reason to stay.

    Let the pace change

Nighttime outside doesn’t need an activity. Listen to music, talk without a screen nearby or simply watch the trees move against the sky. A hammock makes it easier to settle into the quieter side of the day.
